ALERT! SUPERB NEW BOOK PUBLISHED AND WAITING FOR ITS PLACE IN YOUR COLLECTION PLUS VINCENT AND THE MONSTER MASH PLUS 'BASKERVILLES' PART TWO!

FOLLOWING OUR POST of #VincentPrice singing of 'When Day Is Done' last week, this prompted quite a few messages at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE requesting this little ditty! Vincent sings, ladies dance and with some neat editing it works! Released back in 1977, this almost laid the path for a certain hit to come maybe? Vincent was far from the only one to record his own version of this 1962, Bobby 'Boris' Pickett hit. #TheBeachBoys, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, Zacherle the Cool Ghoul and #TheMisfits also had a go. Even with the amazing Leon Russell providing the piano breaks on Pickett's recording, the BBC failed to see the funny side and banned the song for being ‘too morbid.’ in 62! You can catch VP and his 'Monster Mash'  at the PCASUk Fan Page : HERE!

HERE'S WHAT I WILL be spending my pocket money on tomorrow . . and if you love the work of #VincentPrice and are also interested in finding out about what made him tick and his time in the UK . . . . . you will too! I NEED a GOOD read and this one I know will be that and more! LOVE the cover art, Mark 😉

#VincentLeonardPrice JUNIOR DIED ON on 25 October 1993 from lung cancer, and complications of emphysema and Parkinson’s disease. His death left family, friends and fans with a great sense of loss, especially in Britain where The Times' obituary described him as ‘the king of modern horror movies.’ Price was significantly influential in Britain. When American International Pictures, who Price was under contract with, established a base in London in the sixties, most of his subsequent movies were made in the UK. His British output consolidated his popularity among fans, and provided him with many career defining performances.

THIS BOOK EXPLORES the British films of Vincent Price. From 'Masque of the Red Death' and 'The Tomb of Ligeia', through 'The Abominable Doctor Phibes' and 'Theatre of Blood', to 'The Monster Club' and 'Edward Scissorhands', author Mark Iveson leaves no stone unturned in his love and appreciation of Price’s work. A fascinating tribute to a man who can never be equalled or replaced.

YOU CAN ONLY ORDER YOUR COPY OF VINCENT PRICE : THE BRITISH CONNECTION: HERE!

'NO IMAGINATION NO HORROR!' SHERLOCK WATCH WITH CUSHING NOW LIVE!

#WATCHWITHCUSHING! OVER AT The FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE we have lanched our #WATCHPARTY for today, with ANOTHER dip into the 'Sherlock Holmes' BBC television series, 'A STUDY IN SCARLETT' with Peter Cushing again in the role of Sherlock Holmes 😊

#WatchWithCushing! 'Where there is no imagination, there is NO horror!' so says Peter Cushing's Sherlock Holmes in 'A Study in Scarlett', in this episode from his 1968 BBC television serial. Cushing had taken on the role for the BBC when Douglas Wilmer's Sherlock, left the series. It would not be a pleasurable experience for the actor, and when he and Wilmer were later united on the Hammer/AIP production of 'The Vampire Lovers' (1970), Cushing remarked that he would sooner spend the rest of his career sweeping Paddington Station than to work for the BBC again under similar circumstances. Cushing would later argue that the strain affected his performance, indicating a preference for his earlier, less hurried portrayal of Holmes in Hammer’s 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' (1958).

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO CUSHING, however, I disagree – where his earlier performance is a bit mannered, he seems far more relaxed and comfortable in the role in the BBC series. Sadly, many of the episodes no longer survive – but the ones that do show just how effective Cushing really was in the role. 'A Study in Scarlet' wasn’t the first of the series that he did for the BBC, but it is the first in continuity of that surviving episodes. WHICH Cushing Sherlock portrayal do you prefer, the 1958 Hammer Baskerville or the BBC series? Stay Safe, Stay Inside, Stay Well Everyone 😉 - Marcus

VINCENT PRICE AND CHRISTOPHER LEE BORN TODAY : BIRTHDAYS CELEBRATED!

TODAY we remember TWO gentlemen who were, as we all know, close friends to Peter Cushing. By a strange quirk of fate, they SHARED their birthday's today, on the 27th May. 😃 Christopher Lee and Vincent Price... Sadly, neither are no longer with us... Lee's passing was in June 2015. A sad loss even at his age...we just didn't want him to go. He was, Peter Cushing's closest friend . . celebrated and remembered here, almost as much as Peter. He had a career that stretched across almost every genre in the industry. His accomplishments were many, his skill as an actor even as he grew frail, never left him... and neither did we. Today, we mark his birthday and celebrate a remarkable career and life! Happy Birthday Christopher Lee!

A wonderful publicity photograph of both Peter Cushing and Vincent Price while recording the BBC radio serial 'ALIENS OF THE MIND' in 1977. Do you REMEMBER this radio series being broadcast?

SO, PETER YESTERDAY, Christopher Lee AND.... VINCENT PRICE today! Nothing I can say here that hasn't already been said about the versatile Vinnie... certainly a 'Man of the Arts', whose distinctive voice and excellent performances in fantasy films, made him a firm favourite for over 40 years! His career spanned other genres, including film noir, drama, mystery, thriller, and comedy. He appeared on stage, television, radio, and in over one hundred films.... a good friend of both Peter and Christopher, though only appeared on screen with them BOTH just the once, in 'The House of the Long Shadows' in 1983. He is still greatly missed, much and much celebrated, Vincent... a man and actor who could never be replaced... HAPPY BIRTHDAY Vincent Price!

NEW THEMED DAY: HORRIBLE DEATH WEDNESDAY : GIFS DYING TO SHARE!

#HORRIBLEDEATHWEDNESDAY! All change.... Wednesday's have now switched from requested GIFS to a series of GIFS and POSTS of creatures, monsters, villains, and victims from the work of Peter Cushing. Here is a taster gallery for oday... So, expect the most 'Popular Poppin' Their Clogs' here now, every Wednesday 🙂 What is YOUR favorite Horrible Exit of Monster or Character from a Cushing films??? Come JOIN US at our PCAS FACEBOOK FAN PAGE and tell us!

#HORRBLEDEATHWEDNESDAYS! How could forget this very Dorian Gray-ques finish to #HAMMERFILMS 'THE VAMPIRE LOVERS' (1970)? Following Peter Cushing's chopping of Camilla Karnstein's head (Ingrid Pitt), the oil portrait, aging from the beautiful vixen, to just bones! Very effective...and considerably cheaper than staging a while aging corpse from flesh and blood to ashes!

#HORRIBLEDEATHWEDNESDAYS!: RICHARD JOHNSON as vampire, with Donald Pleasence and Anthony Valentine as Vampire Hunters, trying to 'put him to rest'! Britt Ekland, as the wife of Johnson looks on in despair. Vampire Lore, played for laughs!  It was producer / writer Milton Subotsky's ambition to one day make a horror film, for the 'kids'. He almost did it. 'THE MONSTER CLUB' sadly, falls a little between stools. An Amicus film, in everything but name, it has some nice touches but sometimes looks very dated and lame today. UNLESS you are a lover of that very sleezey patch between the end of the 70's and the beginning of the 80's.... punk was out, and novelty was in, thus effecting popular music. The 'Monster Club' of the title, looks the worst. Filling a film set with extras wearing rubber masks, even for the cheapest of Amicus films in the 60's is a long fall. The saving grace, is Vincent Price, Donald Pleasance, John Carradine, and a good cast, with two good stories. 'Young people', teens are a fickle lot, what seemed like a good idea as it was put on paper, was pass'e even before the ink was dry!

#HORRIBLEDEATHWEDNESDAYS!: MICHAEL RIPPER, was often on the receiving end of bad luck in many of his films for Hammer films. But here, as Mipps in Hammer's 'Captain Clegg' (US Night Creatures) of once, he gets to off a baddie! The mute victim of Peter Cushing's pirate in disguise, Milton Reid, takes the bullet and dies...conveniently in the basement workshop of the local undertakers!

#HORRIBLEDEATHWEDNESDAY! IT MUST have been a daunting task, facing the prospect of playing a lead male vampire in a Hammer film. Who could fill Christopher Lee's shoes? For sure, back in the day, when any Hammer film announced the release of a vampire film, that featured a COUNT, I am sure prospective botties on seats, thought of ONE COUNT, who sadly wasn't turning up for this gig!  It happened with David Peel a decade earlier in 'THE BRIDES OF DRACULA', and maybe with Damien Thomas as Count Karnstein, in Hammer's 'TWINS OF EVIL' (1971) Having said that, this was Thomas's first feature film, and he did quite a good job. Hammer's money men, thought him worthy of a proper 'Dracula-like' special effect aging death! An expensive process, back in the day...and here with only ONE cut away shot! No even Christopher Lee's death in 'HORROR OF DRACULA' (1958) had such confidence!

#HORRIBLEDEATHSWEDNESDAY!: AFTER 'THE ABOMINABLE DR PHIBES', was released in 1971, it started a trend for horror films, with imaginative death scenes! Vincent Price's 'THEATRE OF BLOOD' in 1973, the sequel to the first Phibes film, 'DR PHIBES RISES AGAIN' and Amicus films, 'MADHOUSE' in 1974, all benefited from scriptwriters burning the night oil, desperately trying to think of fiendish and amusing ways of killing off co stars. This Shish kebab shot, is a clever one! Killing two unfortunates, at the same time. Doctor Death strikes again!
