PETER VAN HELSING! REMEMBERING MELISSA STRIBLING AND DAVID OXLEY!

'TO CHRISTINE. Amazing stuff. Thank you so much from Peter Van Helsing, Best Peter Capaldi'

NO, THIS IS INTERESTING! YES?. . Here is a very neat 'multiplicated' photograph of what was a screen grab of Peter Cushing as Van Helsing, from the closing moments of #hammerflms 'Dracula' aka 'Horror of #Dracula' (1958), slaying Christopher Lee's first appearance as 'The Count'. A very talented 'Peter's Capaldi and Cushing' fan, who I believe is called Christine, skilfully pasted Mr Capaldi's head onto the image, providing us with amazing and insightful snap of...what could have been, gracing the BBCUK and Netflix international screens next year. What a TREAT it would have been to have seen PC as Van Helsing, he fits the roles so well, as did... PC A missed opportunity, me thinks. Never mind, we'll get to see an actress play the Vampire Hunter instead. Seriously, I hope this all works out for them What do you think?

MEANWHILE HERE is Christine's text that accompanied her post of this photograph

"MANY THANKS to #PeterCapaldi who signed one of my Dracpaldi manips during the autograph session at the #Supanova Gold Coast last weekend! . . .I made the Van Helsing/ Dracula 'manips' some months ago; some time later the PeterCushingAppreciationSociety.com blog posted two of them. The Peter Capaldi autograph was a birthday present for me from my daughter."

HERE IS HER story about meeting Peter Capaldi - he is such a nice man!“Met the amazing Peter Capaldi today at the Supernova Gold Coast to sign two pictures for my little brother and Mum as a birthday present. But I couldn’t afford another Autograph for myself, already had a picture with him, which was such a lovely moment standing next to this kind man.

HE DID MAKE personalised Autographs that day so I told him that this were birthday presents for two other huge fans back home. As I explained him the fanart my mum made, showing him as Peter Cushing ( PC, he was/is a huge fan ), he suddenly had a third picture in front of him and asked for my name. It was so overwhelming and unexpected, I asked him if it’s okay if I could hug him while I tried to handle my tears.Thank you so much PC , it was an unforgeable moment and it still feels unreal.

PETER CAPALDI, for me he is the kindest, gentlest actor and of course my favourite Doctor, always will be.nThank you so much! ~ “Many thanks to Peter Van Capaldi!

REMEMBERING: Melissa Stribling who was born today November 7th 1927. Stribling appeared in just the one film with Peter Cushing...but boy did she pick the right one! She also got to play in one of Hammer films most iconic scenes in their 1958 'Dracula', where Christopher Lee's Count, in the dead of night, visits her home and..without a word.. seduces her. The scene is so super charged with sexual tension, it almost crackles off the screen and as a result got the scissors treatment from the censors at the time. In 2013, in Hammer's restored print the exorcised footage was replaced, giving us the full picture of what Director Terence Fisher, Stribling and Lee had originally intended and created.

I'VE READ SEVERAL reviews of 'Dracula' both from the time of the films' release in 58 and in more recent times, that Stribling was a curious choice for the role of Mina Holmwood, that compared to the likes of Valerie Gaunt and other Hammer actresses, even though she was only in early 30's when she appeared in Dracula, many thought her slightly ordinary and plain. I totally disagree...but if that was the case, I can't help thinking that, director Fisher's choice in Stribling was intentional. That subtext in the story of Arthur Holmwood's wife being frustrated and bored, suddenly being charmed and seduced by the exotic and erotic Count, Stribling was...the perfect choice.

REMEMBERING DAVID OXLEY. ( November 7th 1920 - October 30th 1985 ) Was there ever a more terrifying, evil, rip snorting, bag of fury than Oxley's portrayal of Sir Hugo Baskerville in the 1959 #Hammerfilms production of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' starring #PeterCushing as #SherlockHolmes and Christopher Lee as Sir Henry? I must be honest, I actually find him more frightening than the hound! 😃

SO JUST WHAT SHADE OF GREEN IS YOUR ENVY, RIGHT NOW?

SO, JUST WHAT SHADE OF GREEN, is your envy?😲😃😊😉 Congratulations to Peter Cushing / Star Wars fan, Korrathrace over on Deskgram, who recently took ownership of this fine signed, colour frame portrait of Peter as Grand Moff Tarkin from the 1977 'Star Wars'.... 'BTW this is mine now uhhhhhhhhhh . . .' says she 😉

PROBABLY, PERSONALLY ONE OF MY ALL TIME favorite photographs of #PeterCushing. Taken on the set of the 1977 'STAR WARS', by continuity supervisor, Ann Skinner, Cushing between takes with Dave Prowse and Don Henderson. Prowse worked with Cushing on his last Frankenstein film for director Terence Fisher and Hammer films, Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell and Henderson worked with Cushing on Tyburn films, 'The Ghoul'

Have fun with this and GOOD LUCK Everyone! 😊 - Marcus

#FEMMEFATLE FRIDAY: Meanwhile out on the mooooor! Here's quite rare and very intresting behind the scenes snap of director Terence Fisher working with Christopher Lee and Marla Landi, during the making of Hammer films, one and only Sherlock Holmes film,'The Hound Of The Baskervilles' (1959) Landi certainly sizzled in her role of the very handsey but highly deceptive, Cecile. She also appeared with Lee in Hammer's 'Pirates Of Blood River' (1962). Quite a fiery and passionate personality off stage and camera Landi was allegally was quite attracted to Lee. Which frightened Lee more than any Hell Hound! Landi landed the role in Baskervilles, after Peter Cushing saw her in a theatre production, and suugested her for the role. She auditioned and nailed it! 😊

THE 1958 HAMMER DRACULA, Phantom of the Opera, Dr Terrors House of Horrors and..KONGA! Today marks the birthday of Michael Gough! Gough had quite an interesting film career, some hits and some misses, but all entertaining. Two films which starred Peter Cushing and packed career on stage and screen. Do YOU have a favourite Michael Gough film? Happy Birthday Michael Gough, you are remembered!

COLLECTING CUSHING WITH CAMERON JONES: COLUMBUS , OHIO. 'I began collecting about 15 years ago I started with vintage Hammer film posters. I have been a fan of Peter’s since I was a teenager! says Cameron Jones a Peter Cushing fan and collector. Cameron's collection proves a point that, it really isn't about the size of a collection, it's really about the impressive quality of the items.  Like many of the collections I have had the pleasure of seeing, there is always a library of dvd's or blu rays. Cameron's library doesn't just have recently released titles, but also the attraction older releases appeal too. 'The first Peter Cushing film I bought on dvd was an old public domain copy of ‘Horror Express’. I recently got the new Blu-Ray releases of ‘Dracula A.D. 1972’ and ‘The Satanic Rites of Dracula’ The next film I‘ve been eyeing is ‘Island of Terror’ a great little film'

'A great little film'.... one of Cameron's favorites, 'ISLAND OF TERROR' (1966)

'I GREW UP watching old horror movies. I remember seeing this man who was just so magnetic.. whether he was fighting monsters or creating them it didn’t matter I was always mesmerized by him. Seeing him in a movie meant ‘this was a good one’. Now as an adult my love and respect for Peter Cushing has only grown. He has such range as an actor..he was a natural.'

CLASSIC  Van Helisng with Peter Cushing and David Peel
in 'The Brides of Dracula' ( 1960) included in Cameron's library!

CHRISTOPHER LEE in the Spanish  shocker, 'Horror Express' (1972)

ONE OF THE IMPRESSIVE THINGS about Cameron's collection is, I like that he is a collector, who is bringing together the things that , HE likes. Items, movies and art work that appeal to his love of Peter Cushing. Some of these items are displayed, really tastefully in a spot lit class cabinet. ' My glass display case I got it from IKEA a couple years ago! I think the item in my collection which was the hardest to get was my Titan Van Helsing figurine. It’s pretty rare and hard to find!' Some of you may remember, when Titan released the Cushing Van Helsing figure. It was a limited edition, expensive and everyone serious collector, wanted one gracing their display cabinets! 'My Van Helsing artwork was made for a Kickstarter called ‘Face Cards: Vampires’ a set of trading cards featuring famous Vampires from film and television. The Artist is Byron Winton he decided towards the end of the campaign to add a few famous vampire slayers to the card set. I told him he just HAD to include Peter Cushing’s Van Helsing...and he got put it. I was lucky enough to acquire the original artwork used to make the trading card. It’s Peter as we see him in ‘Brides of Dracula’

I ASKED CAMERON if among all the films and tv shows that Peter Cushing appeared in, that Cameron had seen, was there a performance he wasn't so keen on. 'I don’t believe he ever put in a bad performance. Peter brought a touch of class to every film he was in...he is in my opinion the greatest horror actor of all time.' Cameron's collection is still growing, with regular purchases of newly remastered Cushing movies, and if he adds another eye popping gem to that glass display case... he's promised to let us know! I can't wait! 😊
