LAST WEEKS TUESDAY TOUGHY, really did prove to be QUITE a tough one! Lots of interesting answers, but not one that was correct! The ANSWER was 'The HELLFIRE CLUB' from 1961, in which Peter played, MR MERRYWEATHER. The story and screenplay was written by JIMMY SANGSTER, who wrote so many of Cushing's best scripts, for his roles with Hammer films . . . despite, what Cushing once stated!!!!

TODAY WE WISH a happy birthday to the lovely Eunice Gayson. Best known for playing Sylvia Trench, James Bond's girlfriend in the
first two Bond films (Dr. No 1963 and From Russia with Love 1963).
Originally, Gayson was to be cast as Miss Moneypenny, but that part went
to Lois Maxwell instead. BELOW we have great part of the series that we produced with BRUCE G HALLENBECK on the actresses tht appeared with PETER CUSHING in the HAMMER FILMS Frankenstein series of film, of which EUNICE was indeed one . .

#MONSTERMONDAY:
Peter Cushing's performance as Dr Lawrence in Tyburn films, 'The Ghoul'
is exceptional, on many levels. I can't help wondering whenever I watch
him in this role, how he manages to be involved in such bizarre and
ruthless acts, and yet... I feel such pity for the character. Watching
the story unfold, as Lawrence reveals his past, all skirts very closely
to 'Art imitating Life', as both the Doctor and Peter Cushing
emotionally crumple before our eyes. It could be
called, a masterclass in using 'emotive memories' ...if it wasn't for
the fact that, for Cushing like Lawrence, it wasn't about recalling the
past...it was living with the loss and pain today....
ABOVE A FIRST for our YOUTUBE CHANNEL! As part of this week's #MONSTERMONDAY
we present a film, made in the tradition of 'The Old Dark House',
'Psycho' and many many other 'thing in the attic' movies. 'The Ghoul'
stands as one of three films that Peter Cushing made with Tyburn films.
'Legend of the Werewolf' and 'The Masks of Death' being the other two.
All three films have a quality and pace that very much bucked the trend
of the time, and producer Kevin Francis, should be acknowledged for
having the back-bone, to present these films, in a style, standard and
production value, that would have been considered, out of step by many.
It is that style, that gives comfort and a quality, that was vanishing
quicker than a vamp down a rat hole, at the first glimmer of sun-rise!
Soon, all would be lost and stab, slash, scream and dismember would
become the replacement for tension, suspense and a quality control hold
on the body count. Having said that, many could and do site The Ghoul,
as one of the very early slasher movies. Maybe so, but with the presence
of Peter Cushing, the ageless beauty of Carlson and Bastedo and the
bumpkin weirdness of the late, John Hurt.... things never slip so far as
to become blood-lusty and just bad taste. The Ghoul is Kevin Francis
homage to all those classics, where, just the THOUGHT of what could be
in that room, out-strips the reveal of a million masked, chopper
swinging, chain-saw buzzing, yawn fests, parts one, two, nine and TEN!
It's a great shame that Tyburn had to leave us so soon, we were on the
edge of our seats and just getting comfy!

It seems these days, almost every other day, television announces some
kind of 'event' . . the trailer voice-overs tells us so! Back in 1954,
the BBC's live broadcast of Orwell's '1984' certainly rattled the
viewing public, forbidden love, Big Brother, rats and Cushing's Winston
Smith's melt-down . . neither British television or Peter Cushing would
ever be the same again . . .

For those who have been following the 'Linda-Hayden-Mistakenly-Autographs-A-Photograph-That-isn't-Her-At-
A-Signing-Session!' saga... and that then unfolding into
'So-If-Isn't-Linda Hayden-Who-Is-it?' question...I think we may have the
answer..
She is an actress-model who appeared uncredited in #hammerfilms
Dracula AD 1972, has been for many years mistakenly credited in
magazines and certain blogs as 'Flanagan'. She is in fact, actress-model
GLENDA ALLEN. And it is her who appears in the recently emerged
photograph that is causing the faff...
Born in
Norfolk in 1951, Glenda launched herself into a career of dancing,
modelling and acting soon after leaving school. Regular appearances in
the red top newspapers...modeling, soon brought her to the attention of
tv and film casting agencies...her face and other 'bits and bobs' soon
became very well known. So well known enough for Hammer to cast her in
the party scene in Dracula AD 1972...and in an after production
promotion/publicity shoot. This publicity shoot, was commissioned for
inclusion in a 'Daily Mirror' newspaper Halloween feature..the shoot
would also included the star of Dracula AD 1972....Christopher
Lee....Peter Cushing was probably 'unavailable'. Lee wasn't
happy....but that's another story. The pics taken on the day, had to
meet the remit of said newspaper, that is, the models had to be semi
naked.. Allen no stranger to the art of revealing ones 'bowlers'... so
was an obvious choice, she of course appears as 'dancing girl standing
on the piano' in the film!
So, the pics:
1) Her hippy party girl shot with Christopher Lee for the Daily Mirror
newspaper shoot. 2) Glenda as dancing girl on right in Dracula AD 1972.
3) One of the Daily Mirror photographs, mistakenly signed by Linda
Hayden. 4) Glenda featured in one of photo shoot contact prints... part
of the Christopher Lee Daily Mirror session. 5) A well known publicity
shot of Glenda on set on Dracula AD 1972. This shot is usually credited
to 'Flanagan'. 6) Glenda as she appeared in 13 episodes of 'Space 1999',
sometimes also playing the role of an unnamed nurse.
In the contact
prints I have previously posted, you can see she is prominently placed
in the foreground of nearly all the shots, because of her Dracula AD
connection...along with someone else. Because, as Yoda once famously
said..'There IS another' Who that is, I'll reveal shortly.....
It's 1972 and Christopher Lee has come to the end of his rope. In his opinion, stumbling around drafty old churches,
clinging to flimsy plots and trapped by type casting, was not what he
had in mind, when he signed on the dotted line to play Dracula for
Hammer Films, some twenty years previously. But the Horror film loving
public and media still want more.
Dracula AD 1972, also
starring Peter Cushing making his return as Van Helsing, was in the
final stages of production, and a little pre release publicity was
called for. Probably as per contract, Lee was called on for a photo
shoot for a series of snaps that would be published in the then, nations
favourite 'red top tabloid' The Daily Mirror newspaper, featuring
female models. Two versions of the snaps would be taken, one with silky
top garments, and one without, guaranteeing exposure, as all tabloids at
the time gave page space to 'anything' with long legs and ample piept.
As you can see from these 'exposures' Lee was a little testy. But the
photographer, along with Lee's nerves, just happily kept snapping. It
made page three and Hammer Films turned one more page towards their
final chapter.....
