HE AIN'T TARKIN, HE'S ANOTHER! DESIGNER IVAN MANZELLA EXPLAINS

THE WHOLE 'IS SNOKE REALLY TARKIN?' question has been buzzing around for a few years now. Well, let's FACE it...pardon the pun.... if Cushing had another brother,  . . .with a wife MORE frightening and unreasonable than the one he DID have... sorry I jest πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ƒ. .  IF Cushing had another brother, as well as David (the farmer!)... this guy could have easily have passed, as Cushing's  nightmare looking twin! But, a very recent statement during an interview yesterday, designer of the Supreme Leader Snoke make up Ivan Manzella, kinda put the 'is-he-isn't-he?' theory to sleep, with statements about the influences on his design that harken back to the earliest days of the saga. ....

“I actually based him on Peter Cushing, because there were always Snoke theories that he was Grand Moff Tarkin, which I always found quite amusing. You can see there are elements there. The maquette, there’s elements of Peter Cushing, just the cheekbone and the profile and stuff, but he wasn’t meant to be Peter Cushing. He was my Hammer reference, kind of thing.”

“He was quite graphic in that first iteration, in Force Awakens. You don’t really see much, he’s a hologram, I guess. What they did to him there is they got rid of some of his … they made his face a bit more friendlier, he went more to a flesh color and some of his face was softened up a bit so it wasn’t so graphic. He originally had that hole in the side of his face taken out, it was really kind of nasty stuff going on. I quite liked the idea of him having a marble skin type, all the veining like you get in marble, and these piercing, blue eyes. But he kind of evolved and got a little bit softer, I think.”

Well, Snoke maybe not be Tarkin back from the grave but, in my book he's at least 70% Peter Cushing! You think? - MarcusπŸ˜‰

TARKIN RETURNS AND HE IS NOT ALONE : STAR WARS ROGUE ONE ANTHOLOGY

We are a couple of months removed from the triumphant return of the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens. It has become the biggest domestic hit in U.S. history and we have firmly stepped into the era of The Force. Lucasfilm and Disney currently has at least three Star Wars films in various stages of production including Episode 8, Rogue One, and the Han Solo spin-off. While the average moviegoer is unaware of this grand plan, even the rabid fanbase is largely in the dark about where the new films are headed. (Spoilers ahead)

In July 2015, That Hashtag Show's broke the scoop that there would be the presence of what were formerly called Shadow Troopers in Rogue One. Last week their trustworthy JoBlo, gave a report which aligned with the info our sources obtained last summer. The latest bit of information that we have obtained is really interesting and gives a more focused look at some fan favorite characters. Last August, The Daily Mail ran a interesting scoop that sounded too strange to be true at the time. They reported that Grand Moff Tarkin would return in Rogue One and that LucasFilm would be digitally recreating Peter Cushing in the film. After some digging we have gotten confirmation, from our same source that tipped us that Admiral Ackbar would appear in The Force Awakens, that the scoop was correct. Grand Moff Tarkin will indeed return to the big-screen and will be recreated using the miracle of CGI.

We all know this technology has been used before; like in Fast and Furious 7 for Paul Walker and to convincingly make Michael Douglas younger in Ant-Man. There is concept art of Tarkin for Rogue One, along with Darth Vader, on the bridge of the Death Star and the execution of his CGI character has been explained as being one of the most expensive renderings ever. We don't know who will be playing Tarkin, but, something interesting our source told us is that the Rogue One CG IS for the original actor behind Grand Moff Tarkin, Peter Cushing. It's unclear why they have chosen to go this complicated route, over simply recasting an actor who could breathe new life into the character. However, it is the direction the production has decided to take. Now we wait until December, to see just how all this works, and hopefully the amazing RETURN of Peter Cushing as Tarkin.

'NAME THE...AGGH!' EVEN THE BEST CAN GAFF THEIR LINES! GRAND MOFF TARKIN CUSHING

ABOVE:  GIF FILE OF CUSHING
TONGUE TIED TARKIN!

It's a well known fact, that Peter Cushing was a perfectionist. He prided himself on being 'off the book', not only knowing his lines, but everyone else's too. His use of using props while delivering his lines, was legendary, something that even Christopher Lee commented on, in being envious that Peter could light a pipe, fold a newspaper and kick off his shoes, and STILL deliver his lines. Lee admitted he was hopeless with props.

TIED TARKIN WITH AUDIO

The only noted time Cushing had trouble with lines was during the making of the BBC SHERLOCK HOLMES television series in the late 1960's. Many of these were broadcast live, with film inserts. Time was extremely tight for production, leaving Cushing with limited time to not only absorb the dialogue, but also the meaning. Cushing wasn't difficult, but wanted things done properly and felt compromised. It's one of the few times where on screen, in some scenes Cushing often looks uncomfortable. But, he coped and pushed on...

Our GIF above also shows the flip side of Cushing's frustration with dialogue.  Many of the cast of Star Wars over the years have commented on George Lucas's dialogue, Harrison Ford probably the most. Here Cushing forgets the line in his interplay with Princess Leia played by Carrie Fisher. It's fun to watch the usually well controlled Cushing 'loose it', exclaiming 'What is it called????' This recently found outtake, will no doubt join the other Cushing /Tarkin tale reguarding, filming most of his scenes in Star Wars..in his carpet slippers, after finding at short notice that his costume high leather boots were two sizes too small! The stuff of legend!
