THE PREQUELS AND THE SEQUELS OF YOUR CHOICE!

A VERY POPULAR POST and question over at the FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE today, that really is a #THROWBACK THURSDAY idea! Lots of interesting suggestions, even some people requesting not just a one off sequel, but PREQUELS and whole series of films! Below is the text that has accompanied the post on the page. Please feel free to click the blue link and join in with your suggestions 😉

#ThrowbackThursday! IT SEEMS THESE DAYS, that almost every other film that appears in the cinema today is either a sequel or a prequel, of an already existing successful box office film. If we had the power to revisit the times, when both Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were still with us, and a magic wand, to indulge our tastes, which film that Lee and Cushing appeared in, would you command a SEQUEL go into production? Here is a list of the films that, you could choose from 😉 One choice, your choice 😉 - Marcus

BELOW: THE FANTASY FILMS OF PETER CUSHING AND CHRISTOPHER LEE, for your consideration!

The Curse Of Frankenstein, Dracula/Horror Of Dracula, The Mummy, The Hound Of The Baskervilles, The Gorgon, Dr. Terrors House Of Horrors, She, The Skull, Night Of The Big Heat, Scream & Scream Again, I Monster, The House That Dripped Blood, Dracula AD 1972, The Creeping Flesh, The Satanic Rites Of Dracula, Horror Express, Nothing But The Night, Arabian Adventure, House Of The Long Shadows

THE 22 FILMS OF PETER CUSHING AND CHRISTOPHER LEE: covers in detail all of the connected films in a SEVEN PART series with extensive photographs and images! PART ONE HERE!

ABOVE: THE ONES THAT GOT AWAY, and in some cases, didn't even get past the 'nice idea at the time' Some surprises and some would have the potential to have maybe changed the direction of Cushing's and others careers! MARK IVESON's excellent feature is supplemented with several 'fake' blu ray cases and art work cover designs, that sometimes makes, the loss very frustrating, for sure! CLICK HERE!

THROWBACKTHURSDAY: TO VINTAGE HAMMER FRANKENSTEIN AND MUMMY ON SET

#ThrowbackThursday: A rare peep onto the set of Hammer films, 'Frankenstein Created Woman' at Bray studios, with Peter Cushing and Peter Madden all set for the camera to roll. Those you who know the film, will also know this scene is one of Cushing's Hammer Frankenstein vocal repore highlights, where his dialogue in the dock, shows how the Baron could, if needed, reduce authority figures into a bumbling half-wits. We would see it again,to jaw drop and marvelous effect in Cushimg and Hammer's next Frankenstein film, 'Must Be Destroyed', where his sharp tongue would 'slap the pomp and stupid' out of a party of toffs and top hatters 😉 Peter Madden would also appear, sadly briefly, in the last Hammer Cushing Frankenstein film, 'Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell' in 1974.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: January 11th 1971. An on set, off camera rare photograph of Peter Cushing as Professor Julian Fuchs and Valerie Leon as daughter Margaret Fuchs , during Peter Cushing's one day of shooting on the Hammer films, 'Blood From The Mummy's Tomb'. Sadly, it was a set and role to which Cushing would never return, Helen Cushing, Peter's wife was taken ill on this day and died shortly after, on January 14th 1971. Actor Andrew Keir would step into the role, just three days later. Cushing would return to work and Hammer films two months later, with the role of Gustav Weil in 'TWINS OF EVIL'.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! TARKIN TIME!

OPINIONS ON THE CGI TARKIN that appeared in the 2016 film 'ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY' will probably be forever divided. Some say, it ALMOST works. Others, that it's just not LIFE LIKE, let alone CUSHING as TARKIN. While some like myself believe, it DOES . ..  98% of the time. I have always seen each STAR WARS movie, as a separate movie...despite the continuity thread of the stories.

EACH FILM IS NEW. Each film has it's own time to entertain and work. Despite whatever the prequel or any other releases signal or flag up, the job is to work. Many audiences today, judge the success and entertainment value, on what has happened before. If it is a remake, a sequel of prequel, it takes that test. It applies for completely NEW films too, with NO association to a series or similar theme.

WE SUSPECTED here at PCAS, like many others, that the CGI was coming. Just for a short time, CUSHING was BUZZING! When the release of the film arrived, newspapers, tv news, magazines and the net, carried opinions and images. For five months, CGI brought Peter Cushing BACK to world. I think ROGUE ONE is an amazing film and the appearance of a CGI Peter Cushing as Tarkin, is magic. For me, it always will be . .

LITTLE DID PETER CUSHING  know back in 1976, when he was shooting STAR WARS, that one little decision he made, after feeling the PINCH of his leather TARKIN boots, talk about his performance would not only be about how he played such a tyrant . .  but the word SLIPPERS, would also be forever associated too.

NEXT WEEK: CHRISTOPHER LEE'S TIME WITH STAR WARS AND DOOKU!

INVALID CAST : VINTAGE CORRESPONDENCE: KEEN GUSTAV AND DUBIOUS PRACTICES

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: 'There is more evil around us here than I have ever encountered before. . ' Certainly a line of dialogue to get the pulse racing. This image is taken from the BBC television series 'Sherlock Holmes' which starred Peter Cushing as Sherlock, the episode is 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' which was broadcast in two parts . . Gary Raymond picture here,  stars as Sir Henry Baskerville.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY! THE WONDERFUL thing about researching and documenting Peter's life and work is, being such a prolific letter writer and note maker, he has left a paper trail, and every now and then, something interesting bobs to the surface!. Here are two  good examples. These are genuine letters of correspondence between members of the public who have written to Peter, wishing him well and requesting an autograph or photo. Cushing was very good at sending replies, and 9 out of ten times, also including an autograph on a photograph, even if it wasn't requested.

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: I THINK if Gustav Weil from Hammer films 'Twins of Evil' was around today, he would certainly be a regular monthly winner of the 'EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH'. He certainly stuck to his job description, and wasn't happy until he and his band of the 'brotherhood' met their monthly quarter!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: THE PROGRAMME cast page from the 1951 production of THE GAY INVALID, lots of names that were soon to be house-hold names in the UK, along with Peter Cushing... there are also other performers names who have 'fantasy genre' connections on the big screen too. Can you spot them??

HOUSEKEEPING: If you are wondering were our Competitions have gone...worry not! I have an excellent COMPETITION for you THIS WEEKEND ! Also, for those of you who have spotted a fair ol scattering or typos, errors and mistakes in my jottings over the past three months, my apologies. I haven't lost my marbles, I am taking some elephant strength painkillers, following a wobble in health last year. I do try and check everything I write, but often it's difficult when the words and page are doing a tango and double vision at times, makes it a tricky exercise. I am ok, but please bare with me, normal service will continue very soon!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: 50 YEARS THIS MONTH!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY : FIFTY YEARS AGO this month, this interview with Peter Cushing appeared in the Evening News newspaper. Dr Who and the Daleks were big news following the success of the tv series and the first Dr Who Dalek movie the year before.. Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 AD was released on August 5th 1966 in the UK. The TWO Cushing Dr Who films, still stand as the only big screen outings of the Dalek's adventures. Cushing's Doctor is still regarded as non canon to the BBC tv series.
